It wasn’t long after my husband and I started dating that I began to discover something about myself. Actually – it was the persistent, unyielding, INTERVENTION of the man I loved that enabled me to see it.
How many of you know that when you are in a relationship it’s just a matter of time before all your “STUFF” gets exposed? Before you know it, everything you thought you had neatly concealed about yourself begins to spill out. And, it’s usually that little mechanism flapping between your lips that “gives you up” every time!
Oh yes, I remember it well…
There we were sitting in Country Donuts, when he looked at me with those hazel brown eyes and said: “Honey, I love you, but there is one thing thou lackest.” “Really” I said. “And what might that be?” “Honey, it’s your tongue. You speak so negative all the time. You haven’t learned to speak your faith.”
For a moment, two thoughts were wrestling inside my head: Throw the coffee …or listen… Throw the coffee …or listen…
I took a deep breath and made a decision to listen to what he had to say. It took some time for the words he spoke to me on that day to take root in my heart, and I’m so glad that they did.
You see for me understanding the power of words is very personal. I was raised in an atmosphere where words were “Weapons of Mass Destruction!” The words I grew up with were abusive, crippling, and hurtful. Those words began to define me - who I became and how I saw myself. At the root of all my ADDICTIONS were those words.
So there, in that little coffee shop on Richmond Avenue, began my journey to heal and discover how the power of words affects us on every level of our life. In this series, I want to share with you some of the principles I’ve learned in God’s Word that have helped to deliver me… from me!
Let’s begin with the Genesis Principle found in Genesis 8:22:
"22 While the earth remains, Seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night… shall not cease." (NASB)
Many of you may be familiar with God’s Law of Seedtime and Harvest, also known as, “The Law of Sowing and Reaping.” In modern vernacular, you can relate it to the principle of Cause and Effect. Cause and Effect is when something happens that causes something else to happen because of it.
Many believers are first exposed to this teaching when it comes to God’s principles for finances. However, Seedtime and Harvest is a FOUNDATIONAL LAW that operates in EVERY area of our life. It is the basis of all that God has done, created, is doing, or will ever do. It is without exception, a fundamental law (or principle) that God operates within, and all other laws of God operate within it. In other words, no other law or principle operates outside of the law or principle of seedtime and harvest. This tells us something: this law will operate in our life – like it or not - believe it or not. The Law of Seedtime and Harvest is a FOUNDATIONAL LAW of LIFE itself!
Next week, we will begin to take apart some of the key elements that make up this law and see how they work.
